Peek at My Week

Happy February!  I can't believe we are in the month of February.  It's a busy month here in first grade.  We have two full weeks until our winter break.  That's right, we have a week off in February during the week of President's Day!  So we are in the big push to break... lots to do for report cards before the week off.

This is the first time I am trying to link up my plans with Mrs. Wills Kindergarten.  I'm excited to share my plans and to see what everyone else is up to this week!

Some highlights from our week include new math tubs for our math workshop time.  To read more about math workshop in our room click here for a previous post.

We have been working on place value over the last few weeks and I have had some kiddos that have had some trouble identifying the tens and ones in teen numbers.  So I created a "Building Numbers" math tub where the  kiddos build the teen numbers and then match the tens and ones cards to each number.  The kids have enjoyed working on this during our small group math time and I know they'll love to do it on their own at our math tub rotations each day.

We will also be using the Mitten Math tubs I posted today.  There are two different tub activities in this pack: Missing Addends and 3 Addend Addition.

Addition Math Tubs (Mitten Math) - Winter Edition

The missing addend tubs have two sets of cards: one set with sums to 10 and the other is a bit more challenging with sums to 20.

I have also posted a 3 addend addition tub with a mitten theme... we have more snow coming our way tomorrow... this winter does not want to end!  We have been working on adding three numbers over the last few weeks and have focused on making ten to add 3 numbers so this tub addresses this.  Each card allows my kiddos to practice finding the two addends that make ten first.

Each day we end our math block with a problem solving worksheet.  I love this because I can see who's got problem solving and who needs a bit more help.  As you can see I love using the construction theme in math... so many different ways to look at it but I like it because we are always building with and constructing numbers and number sense in math so I think its a great theme for math tubs.  I have uploaded a Problem Solving Printable freebie as well as a pack that includes 15 different addition word problems.

During our Daily 5 this week we will be using some games/activities that my kiddos know and love.  Each week after introducing new sight words they have a choice at one of our word work stations to play a sight word game (Back to the Hive) or practice reading the words with the Spin It, Read It, Write It activity.  My kiddos seem to enjoy both and know that we have been doing these each week they know what's expected and this makes our Daily 5 time run smoothly.

Have a great week!
