Five for Friday

Today I'm thinking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday!

This was the longest week ever.  We were preparing for spring break here and I have not felt well since Saturday!  We thankfully did not have school today and I've been resting all day... trying to get rid of whatever I have.  I guess I should be thankful being sick didn't happen next week when we have the whole week off!

ONE: USA Symbols
We finally finished our US symbols unit by creating books about each of the symbols.  My kiddos did a nice job drawing and writing facts about their symbols.  Love to end the unit this way rather than a worksheet or paper pencil task.  The kids were so proud to share their work!

TWO: Easter Math Games
This week we played some Easter themed math games during our math workshop time.  We played addition and subtraction bunny games.  The kids were also able to create their own Easter themed word problems for other group members to solve.  That was a favorite for many.

THREE:  Parts of Speech
This week I wanted to review parts of speech with my kiddos and there were able to create charts for each of the parts of speech using construction paper and post its.  Some of my kiddos even drew their word on their post it.  I love this worksheet-free review of parts of speech.

FOUR: Peeps and Carrots
Yesterday to celebrate Easter my kiddos did a peep experiment using different liquids to see which liquid dissolved the peep fastest.  I love the explanations some of my kiddos came up with.
We also read Creepy Carrots.  One of my new favorites for sure.  The kids loved the book!  After reading we wrote an opinion piece about the book to go with out opinion writing unit we've been working on during writing workshop.

FIVE: Drawings
We had a few minutes before dismissal yesterday so we we did some directed drawings with the kiddos.  We were able to draw a rabbit as well as a Lego man.  A few of my kiddos asked me to make my Lego guys NY Rangers players... we have  a few hockey fans in our room this year!  Go Rangers!!

Have a great weekend.  Don't forget to visit Doodle Bugs Teaching!
