No Worksheet Wednesday

I'm linking up for my first No Worksheet Wednesday with The Primary Chalkboard to showcase some of the authentic learning that's been taking place in our classroom through the use of hands-on activities rather than worksheets.

Here are some pictures from our day!!

I was inspired after reading chapters one and two from the Worksheets Don't Grow Dendrites book.  Instead of using a worksheet as a culminating activity I had my Firsties work in families today to write and draw about all they've learned about penguins.  They did an awesome job and they were so excited to be making posters to hang in our hallway to highlight our work!!

Math tub games today included a place value game where my kiddos build numbers using tens and ones.  This is a great way for kids to understand numbers.  My kids also played some math spinner games to practice addition and subtraction skills.  They loved using the gold coins as markers on their game boards.

During our Daily 5 rotations my kiddos built contractions with clothespins and played two sight word games, "Back to the Hive" and a sight word spinner game.

To celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday we read a biography about him and the kids got to record their learning on Dr. Seuss hats that they made.  They loved hearing all about Dr. Seuss!

We were busy today!!
