Today I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday!
Finally had a great week of weather here in the northeast. We are just about to that time in the year when there are interruptions each week for end of the year events. I can't believe we have less than 2 months left!
Here are some highlights from our week!
Here are some highlights from our week!
ONE: Plants
The plants we planted in March are just about ready to be replanted at a local nature preserve. The kids have done an awesome job taking care of these plants and they have enjoyed watching the plants grow. It's been a great addition to our plant unit.
TWO: Addition with Regrouping
We began addition with regrouping this week and my kiddos rocked it. I think using the tens and ones cubes with the work mat really helped the kids to see what regrouping means. After using the maninpulatives the kiddos were able to use work mats to learn how to re-write addition number sentences vertically to add two digit numbers. I love giving the kids the work mats because it helps them line up their numbers when adding.

On Thursday and Friday we began subtraction with regrouping. We started with the conceptual and have not really looked at the procedural yet because I wanted my kids to understand what subtraction with regrouping really is before they begin actually solving the problems.
We used the same work mats we used for addition with regrouping and the kiddos really "got it". Definitely a great way to begin this important topic.
We decorated vases for Mother's Day and they came out so nice! I found some great paint at Target and the kids loved the different colors they used to decorate their vases. I then let my Firsties wrap their own vases in tissue paper... the gifts looked great all wrapped up!
FIVE: Hockey Playoffs
I love your regrouping mat! What a great idea!
