Five for Friday

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday!

ONE: Nonfiction book clubs
We started nonfiction book clubs this week and the kids are in love.  They're enjoying the opportunity to read nonfiction books and then discuss what they've learned with their club members.  I raided our leveled book room and found multiple copies for each member of the five groups we have going.

TWO: Two Digit Addition and Subtraction
It's that time of the year again and my kiddos really rocked it this week!  I'm so proud of their efforts this week.  I made up a quick adding and subtracting vertically song and the kids love it.  As we go through each problem step by step we sing the song and it's really helping them remember to start in that ones column.  I have a handful of kiddos that also like adding horizontally... whatever works for them I'm all for it!!

 THREE: Horrible Harry Books
My kiddos came back from library this morning pumped by the books they selected.  My teacher heart was so happy with their excitement!!  We've read several Horrible Harry books aloud this year and it's safe to say my kiddos are hooked.  Here's only a few of the Horrible Harry books they picked up from the library today!!

 FOUR: Play-oh
Teacher confession... I HATE the smell of play-doh.  I truly grosses me out and I really don't like using it in my classroom.  However this week our sight word work needed a bit of a lift so I got out the dough for the kiddos to build our new sight words.  This kiddo decided to build her sentence with the play-doh as well!!

FIVE: US Symbols
We've been studying US Symbols the last two week and my kiddos have enjoyed this unit.  Today was our last day working on US symbols and we finished up with the White House.  One of my kiddos took this book out of the library so I could read more about the White House... such a sweet boy!!

Have a great weekend.. Don't forget to check out Doodle Bugs Teaching for more Five for Friday posts!
