Today I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday!
Here are some highlights from our week!
ONE: Plant Posters
We finished our plant unit this week. The kids enjoyed this unit. They especially enjoyed taking care of our Lupine plants that we will plant next week at a local nature preserve. After reading Worksheets Don't Grow Dendrites I was inspired to end this unit using posters designed by the kids.
First the kids planned their two facts on a planning sheet. A few kids needed help writing their facts and the planning sheet allowed me to help them before the began their final project. The posters turned out great and I can't wait to display them in our hallway!
TWO: Plant Folders

TWO: Plant Folders
This is the first year I've used a plant unit I've created and it was so much fun to see all the activities working in the classroom. We put all of our work in a folder and I'm so impressed by all the work we completed in the last few weeks.
THREE: Candy Land
THREE: Candy Land
I've been saving this math tub all year for just the right moment... this week was that moment! The noise level during math tubs this week has gotten louder and louder (or so it seemed) and I knew I needed to introduce a new tub to get the kids excited and engaged to cut down on the taking and chatter.
Enter the Candy Land board game. The kids went nuts when I told them we'd be using this during math!! They couldn't believe it. I put out the board, two different colored tiles, and 3 dice. The groups then went to work. Instead of adding just two numbers I upped the challenge and had the kids add three numbers. The game ended a bit quicker but I wanted the kids to have the three addend addition practice!
It was music to my ears... kids engaged in math and happy to be playing this game!! Perhaps next week we'll use the Chutes and Ladders board game!
FOUR: Word Work
Lots of word work options to practice our sight words as well as our spelling pattern (oo). We even sorted oo words based on the two sounds oo can make. The kids loved sorting on the pocket chart.

FIVE: RANGERS
I have a ton of Rangers fans in my classroom this year... perhaps because I'm always talking about the team! The Rangers completed an awesome comeback this week and we are pumped for the Easter Conference Finals that begin tomorrow!! LET'S GO RANGERS!!
